Bend Bulletin: Learn about Deschutes watershed

The Upper Deschutes Watershed Council — a non-profit dedicated to protecting habitat in the Upper Deschutes — is hosting a six-part speaker series covering a range of topics from water use to wildlife. The series will be held at the Sunriver Nature Center. All events are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sunriver Nature Center, 57245 River Road. The series, which is a course offered through Central Oregon Community College, will be held at the Sunriver Nature Center. Cost is $59 and participants must enroll in the entire series. Events include:
April 10 — Upper Deschutes geology and hydrology
Learn the definition of a watershed, the geography of the Upper Deschutes watershed and about the geology and hydrology of the watershed.
April 24 — Water use
Learn about how water is used and efforts to conserve water in the future.
May 8 — Tributaries of the Upper Deschutes
Learn about local tributaries to the Upper Deschutes such as Paulina Creek and the Little Deschutes River, and projects on these tributaries.
May 22 — Fish and wildlife
Learn about native fish and aquatic species that are dependent on healthy rivers in the Upper Deschutes Watershed
June 5 — Water quality and wildfire
Learn about water quality challenges and opportunities and how forest health is connected to watershed health.
TBD — Watershed tour
The watershed tour will be held outdoors at various tour stops with an emphasis on what has been learned during previous sessions.
