City of Bend is offering cash incentives to residents who tear out their lawns
The city of Bend is offering a turf-removal rebate to residents who want to convert their lawns into low-water landscapes.
Starting this month, residents of Bend can earn $3 per square foot, up to $3,000, to remove currently planted and thriving lawns and turn the space into low-water xeriscapes, a landscaping style that requires little or no irrigation.
Converting a lawn to a yard that reflects this area’s High Desert environment will conserve water, said Dan Denning, city of Bend water conservation program manager. It also lowers water bills for families and reduces demand on the city’s water infrastructure, he said.
The turf removal program will continue through 2024 or until the program’s $75,000 fund is exhausted. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information visit bendoregon.gov/conservation.
