Welcome Jenna, Our New Communications Intern!

Hello everyone, my name is Jenna Reed, and I am super excited to join the Deschutes River Conservancy (DRC) this summer as a communications intern. During my internship, I will work to support the ongoing communications projects of the DRC, including content creation and management for the DRC’s social media platforms, serving as a point of contact for media inquiries, and assisting in planning and implementing events. I am eager to apply my skills and contribute to the DRC’s mission and goals.

In June, I graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Political Science. As an undergrad, I conducted research on sustainable tourism and public opinion research on climate change. I also serve as a campus tour guide, leading tours and information sessions for visitors to campus. I am now working towards a master's in Public Policy, with a focus on Sustainability, Environment, and Energy Policy. Thanks to Stanford University's Public Policy program, which provides funding to students pursuing internships at public or non-profit organizations, I have the opportunity to work here at the DRC.

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and spent much of my childhood outdoors playing soccer or hiking around the area. During the summer, I would drive around the West Coast with my family, visiting National and State parks across California, Oregon, and Washington. These experiences instilled a love of the environment, which has evolved into a passion for sustainability. After first falling in love with Bend in 2010, I was fortunate to return to the area after my parents bought a home here in 2020. Since then, I’ve loved exploring the area, whether it be eating in downtown Bend along the Deschutes River or hiking on a weekend along the Crooked River. Outside of the office, I enjoy hiking, reading, and exploring the best of Bend’s food scene.

During my time as an intern at the DRC, I hope to develop my communication skills and learn all I can about water management. I am excited to work alongside the excellent team at the DRC and look forward to contributing towards on-the-ground water conservation efforts. I am grateful to the DRC and Stanford for this opportunity and look forward to making a positive impact in the basin.
